Total Networking members complete 180 mile bike ride in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care
Aug 2009:
Barry Starling and Wil Chung, part of the development team of Networking Group, Total Networking, managed to cycle 180 miles from London to Amsterdam in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Part of a 50 strong group, with ages ranging from 14 to over 60 the weekend managed to raise over £80,000 for the charity. Edwina Currie, a supporter of the charity was a part of the group, participating in her ninth cycle challenge in eleven years.
Barry and Wil had been training and fundraising since February and hope to finish with a figure of over £3,000. The training was much harder for Wil who had admitted he had never travelled over 5 miles in one bike ride. At the peak of training, the pair was doing around 100 miles a week with Barry also recently completing the Nottinghamshire Bike Ride and the “Pork Pies and Pot Holes” cycle challenge through the Vale of Belvoir as part of his training
Highlights of the 3 day bike ride included staying in a 14th century castle in Heemskerk, riding amongst the sand dunes along the North Sea Cycle route and cycling through Edam before entering Amsterdam.
Barry is hoping to participate in the 400km Canadian Rockies challenge in 2010.
Special thanks to Total Networking, Mike Waterfall at Inspired by Print, Craig and Nicola at the Crown & Mitre, Newark and Mark Cooling at Kaliber Environmental for their support. |
